Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the name all about?  And all this ZING stuff?

The sphinx moth is a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings.  While on a motorcycle trip in South Korea, Steve noticed swarms of sphinx moths zinging around the blue jacket he was wearing, and later came to envision these creatures as heroes of exploration, curiosity, and mutual understanding - forces for public good that achieve their ends through travel.  With Sphinx Moth Travels, you too can ZING!

What is your mission?

We hope to spark the joy of independent travel amongst those who would otherwise be afraid of travel or doubtful that travel is for them.

Who are you?

We are regular people, having lived much of our lives as educators, professors, and trainers.  We are family-oriented, with children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, elderly parents, and much of our travel has been to see family. We have also traveled as a couple and independently.

Do you focus on beach or tropical travel?  I see a lot of beach photos.

Sphinx Moth Travels can help you travel to any destination on earth.  Steve and Maria are water lovers for sure, and Steve is an experienced scuba diver, but we have enjoyed travel to mountains, deserts, forests, and more.

Are you travel agents?

We don’t book tours, vacations, or cruises on your behalf,  but we are experienced enough to help you plan and carry out just about any kind of travel you can imagine.  Between the two of us, we have visited close to 30 countries and territories and 27 US states.

What are you selling?

Our Independent Travel DeMystified course can help you with your independent travel plans.  But don’t take our word for it - register for the Top 11 Travel Health and Safety Myths first, browse through our other content, and get to know us.
